Food Forests & Permaculture

A food forest contains a diverse range of food plants that are mixed in such a way as to mimic a natural forest – the most stable and sustainable type of ecosystem in our climate.

Not only do these systems provide, food and other products, such as fuels, fibres, and medicines, for people, but habitat for wildlife, biodiveristy, natural soil building, beauty tranquility, amongst other benefits, and a flourishing environment for everyone to enjoy.

Our aims for forest gardens at Calderdale Royal Hospital:

  • Permanenent food landscaeps
  • Low manitainence
  • High impact
  • Focus on fruit, medicinal herbs, wildlife and sensory planting

Permaculture is a system of agricultural and social design principles centered on simulating or directly utilizing the patterns and features observed in natural ecosystems.

This project will include a full Permaculture Design with cultivator and designer, Beth Morgan and Food Forest expert, Tomaz Remiarz.

Tomas Remiarz book on Food Forests will be available soon.
